Hours
$545 + text ($58.87 includes tax) Course Description: Structural Kinesiology is the study of muscles as
they are involved in the science of movement. Both skeletal and muscular
structures are involved. The emphasis in this course placed on the larger
muscles that are primarily involved in movement of the joints. Although is it
is vital to learn the small details of muscle attachments, it is even more
critical to be able to apply the information to real-life situations. Once
the information can be applied in a useful manner, the specific details are
usually much easier to understand and appreciate. Objectives include: Advance understanding of the anatomy of the
skeletal system Review and understand the terminology used to
describe body part locations, reference positions, and anatomical directions. Experience planes of motions and respective axes
of rotation in relation to human movement. Name and understand the various types of bones
and joints in the human body and their characteristics Describe and demonstrate the joint movements The class will consist of 45 hours of lectures, audiovisual presentations, group
discussion, experiential processes, movement exercises, movement facilitation
skills, body psychology, and palpation on self and with partners. The textbook used is Manual of Structural
Kinesiology by Clem W. Thompson and R.T. Floyd. It includes
numerous illustrations, tables and worksheets. The outcome of this class will be a practitioner
who is keenly aware of specifics of muscle and their attachments as well as
joints and their proper functioning. This increases the massage therapist's
ability to better assess their client and their needs. Prerequisites: Anatomy I-III and Physiology I-II Required
