Annual Reports & Fact Sheets

​Massage Licensing & Legislation

California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC)
CAMTC is a private, non-profit corporation established in 2009 that provides voluntary certification for massage professionals in California. It acts as a statewide regulatory entity that protects the public, sets educational standards, and enables certified therapists to work in California. The California Massage Therapy website has all the information you need about California State Certification. 

 

National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB)
National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork is the web site to go to for information on requirements needed to take the National Test.  We recommend our students use the “Portfolio Review Process”

 

Federation of State Massage Boards®
The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards® offers the MBLEx® test that is required by CAMTC for California State Certification. You can find what other states accepts this test for licensing here. The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards® (FSMTB®) is pleased to announce that the official study guide for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx®) is now available for purchase. The study guide also contains a practice exam. The Study Guide is the only official MBLEx® preparation resource, published by the organization that owns and governs the MBLEx®. The Study Guide provides information related to MBLEx® study tips, covers the eight content areas of the examination, and includes a 100-item MBLEx® practice exam that allows candidates to assess their comprehension of sample MBLEx® content. The MBLEx® Study Guide is available for purchased from their website. Access the order form on the FSMTB®’s website, www.fsmtb.org, fill out and submit by mail or email. Professional Organizations

Associated Bodywork Massage Professionals (ABMP)

The Associated Bodywork Massage Professionals is a professional organization for body-workers and skin care professionals that provide insurance coverage, business support, and educational resources.  This is another resource for massage therapists to stay current with California’s future legislation and have a voice politically.

American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA)

The American Massage Therapy Association is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to serving AMTA members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy.

 

Massage Magazine
MassageMag.com is a source to go to for information on massage therapy, the bodywork industry and licensing required by each State.

 

Touch Research Institute
The Touch Research Institute is dedicated to studying the effects of touch therapy. The TRI has researched the effects of massage therapy at all stages of life, from newborns to senior citizens. In these studies the TRI has shown that touch therapy has many positive effects

Scholarship Opportunities

$5,000 Prize in the ABMP Scholarship Sweepstakes

The Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP) Scholarship Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of all 50 states and the District of Columbia who are age 18 or older, have a valid United States social security or other tax identification number, and are enrolled in a US state-approved massage and bodywork program as of the date of prize winner selection. 

$5,000 Scholarship from the AMTA 

Applicants must be enrolled or admitted in a 500-hour minimum, entry-level massage therapy program at the time the scholarship application is submitted. Complete the application, and, in a few sentences, answer the question: "Why do you want to become a massage therapist?"

$2,500 Prize from the Massage Envy Scholarship Sweepstakes

As the nation's leading provider of massages across its franchise network of independently owned and operated franchised locations, the Massage Envy brand is deeply committed to the growth and support of future massage therapists. The Massage Envy National Scholarship Sweepstakes for Massage Therapists will provide 60 winners with $2,500 each to help fund their education in massage therapy school over 12 drawings.
